Man died after lifting dumbbells in Quarry Bay
A 38-year-old man died after he fainted while lifting dumbbells at a 24-hour fitness center in Quarry Bay.
The man, surnamed Cheng, was working out at Anytime Fitness, located on the second floor of King’s House in Quarry Bay, at about 10pm Saturday when he fainted.
The staff immediately gave him first aid and called the police.
He remained unconscious and was sent to the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for resuscitation, but was certified dead at 1.47am on Sunday.
It was understood that Cheng had a past record of illness.
Earlier in May, a 41-year-old man died after a barbell attached to weight-training equipment fell on his chest at a 24/7 Fitness outlet in Sheung Shui.
He was certified dead in the North District Hospital five days after the accident.
The police investigation show that he was trying to push up the barbell, but it seemed he did not have enough strength and it fell on his chest.
