Montgomery County Community College: Gobble Wobble 5K Run/1-Mile Walk Virtual Fundraiser Nov. 22-28

Burn off those extra Thanksgiving calories while helping students at Montgomery County
Community College combat food insecurity at the same time.

Join students in the Exercise Science and Wellness (ESW) 102 class for the Gobble
Wobble 5K run/1 mile virtual walk fundraiser Nov. 22-28 benefiting the College’s Stock
up for Success food pantries. The pantries will use the donations to purchase grocery
gift cards to help students of the highest need.

The week-long event is a virtual fundraiser, though community members are still invited
to walk with ESW students in person on Monday, Nov. 22 at 10:15 a.m. in the Health
Sciences Center Courtyard on Blue Bell Campus, 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell. Participants
can submit their time and see how they stack up against other contributors. The suggested
donation for participation is $5 or $1 per kilometer, though any amount is appreciated
and goes directly to the fund. To register for the event, visit the landing page

Each semester, ESW students have the opportunity to run a community event to benefit
a non-profit, explained Michelle Donovan, Exercise Science and Wellness Senior Lecturer.

“This project allows ESW students to gain experience organizing an event from planning
to day of participation,” she said. “This semester, students chose to help their fellow
classmates who may be food insecure. The College’s food pantry is available to any
current students in need of food.”

Last year, students ESW students worked up a sweat performing 8,235 jumping jacks, 200 burpees, 397 baskets, 773 sit ups, and 2,200
jump ropes during the virtual Montco Games, said Donovan. The fundraiser benefited
the MCCC Foundation, which supports the College’s Emergency Fund, Technology Fund and general scholarships.

MCCC is committed to feeding both students’ minds and bodies. Food insecure students
are encouraged to stop by the Student Success Centers on Blue Bell Campus and Pottstown
Campus, 101 College Drive, Pottstown, to pick up snacks and ready-to-eat soups from
the Stock up for Success food pantries. Supplied by donations from the Montco and surrounding communities, Stock up for
Success exists to help students succeed. For hours and information, contact the Wellness
